An interesting birthday for me.

Took a final, studied for hours, and missed Tumblr breaking because of 12/12/12?.

BUT, my cake did have fireworks instead of candles. Because candles are for sissies that don’t like the smell of gunpowder and icing. Explosives on baked goods.

So we could have died horribly? Yes.

Why ‘Adventure Time’ Is More Groundbreaking Than You May Realize

I always thought that film critics, particularly independent film critics, would be the right people to understand the depth of Adventure Time. IndieWire’s Eric Kohn’s the first one! —Fred

Why ‘Adventure Time,’ Now In Its Fifth Season, Is More Groundbreaking Than You May Realize

“Adventure Time” more clearly represents the progress of [animation]: Irreverent and narratively engaging, it’s the ideal testament to animation’s glorious pliability in an commercial arena otherwise defined by restrictions.

The subtext of “Adventure Time” calls to mind “Calvin and Hobbes”: Through friendship and playtime, the characters seemingly deny the bad vibes their surrounding world invites. The show’s a testament to the prospects of cracking jokes when nothing seems funny anymore.

[Creator Pendleton] Ward’s playful, stream-of-conciousness approach to each 11-minute episode has turned his show into fodder for college stoners hip to its random exposition, but there’s a lot more at work in the steadily growing atmosphere.

The official Adventure Time Japanese Dub. YOU GUYS.

Can we talk about how Finn is played by Paku Romi (Romi Park for you non-Asians)? As in Edward Elric? As in Fullmetal Alchemist??? This has made my day.

Marceline and Simon.  Photoshop.

So, uh, Adventure Time made me real sad.  Tumblr feelings, man.  I’m such a sucker for maternal/paternal themes, yeesh.  Be careful of those Adventure Time episodes with songs, that’s where 90% of the character development happens.  I’d normally put this up tomorrow to spread out posts, but I’d probably get embarrassed and chicken out.

What time is it? All of the feelings time! Good god in heaven…

But we overlap on a firm 50% of your list, which could swing up to 80% after I get deeper into Lost, Luther, and/or Twin Peaks. Although that would involve other things on my list being displaced by said shows, and I’m just not sure if that will happen any time soon.

In no particular order

  • Doctor Who
  • The X-Files
  • Rubicon
  • Dead Like Me
  • Sherlock
  • Firefly
  • Arrested Development
  • Pushing Daisies
  • 30 Rock
  • Adventure Time

Honorable mentions: Lost, Luther, Twin Peaks, Bones, Lie to Me, Grey’s Anatomy (season 1 legitimately, later seasons are hit-or-miss), House (until the first trio of fellows left).

ALSO: ADVENTURE TIME. It satisfies a collection of television needs that can be summarized as such

I will use this every time I can get away with it.
